Toolbox is shareware and cost 10 Euro.
Where it seems that you (FxGen) have had much focus on building a .werkkzeug engine. I have had focus on improving the classic .werkkzeug user interface. Take a look at it, and you will hopefully be inspired.

I am working on a werkkzeug clone for Mac for generating textures and photos. And now I can show it to the world for the first time. It shareware and cost 10 Euro, sorry its commercial :-(
IMO Toolbox has some stuff that may be worth checking out. I have spend most of my energy on making the GUI, and less time on the effects. I began working on this project in 2004, and has only worked on the GUI for the last year.

Sorry if this gets posted twice. The first time I submitted it seemed as if something went wrong.

I just discovered libnoise. I'm quite sure that it could be of use for fxgen.
Check out these links:

Of particular interest, Arrdbei's texture generator:

Just incase you didn't already know they existed.
ATG has a number of features FXGen doesn't have and would be nice to see.

download requires registration, but it's free.
hopefully give some fresh inspiration.
btw: I am trying to keep track of what tools is out there for node/layer based graphics.
besides fxgen, there is werkkzeug, v-constructor, tg/sg.

As a member of the openFrag project, I have attempted to foster interest in the FxGen library. Here is a thread I have created to detail their discussion on the matter.

I hope things go well. :-)
