demo game

i think it would help fxgen very much if people could see a game that uses it.
I think integrate fxgen into a existing game, such as quake (well, probably in the more recent quake engine darkspace) would make fxgen very fast very popular.

it's just a idea i had. Integrating fxgen into darkspace would be like adding a new texture format. If somebody does it he could do it in a way that the fxgen texture would overwrite if aviable the default quake 1 texture. a perfect demo would then be to retexture the first quake level only with fxgen generatet textures.

advantages:
-more people will know fxgen = more developers etc.
-fxgen is used to create real textures for a real game, so the limits of fxgen will be found and features implemented to create the needed textures.

I'm agree with you, i'm

I'm agree with you, i'm working on fxgen v0.5a api for c++ and next for c#, this is help all developpers in order to integrate easily fxgen lib in their games.
Show a game that used fxgen is a very good thing. So if you need some improvements don't hesitate.
can you tell us more about your game. (programming langage, opengl/directx ...)
Thank you.

i dont make a game myself, i just proposed that somebody that knows fxgen good should integrate it into a quake engine (random example, it's open source and quite popular).

I would do it myself (or try), but i couldnt get fxgen to work under linux.

IMHO Sauerbraten would be a great game to implement it into :) But I can't do it.

Btw I second that wish for a linux port.

Sauerbraten

Sauerbraten is a very good open source game. In order to show that fxgen can be a good solution in order to reduce Sauerbraten game package size, we need some graphics to make textures with fxgen and a Sauerbraten level to do a demonstration.
I can modifiate Sauerbraten source code, to use fxgen project file.

I posted a thread about it

I posted a thread about it over at the Sauerbraten Forum:
http://www.cubeengine.com/forum.php4?action=display_thread&thread_id=1542

But I kind of share the reservation expressed by one of the main coders (eithrul) about it not beeing really cross-platform.

Hi, so what's current staus

Hi,

so what's current staus about the platform independence? I have toybox project of mine based on sauerbraten and would like to give a integration try.

platform independence.

Hi,
a gcc fxgen version work, we have begin a cross plaform version of fxgen editor.
so now you can use fxgenlib into sauerbraten engine.

Okay thanks for the info

Okay thanks for the info i'll give it a try

A game

Hi guys,
I'm following FxGen project since some months now and I've already been in touch with Johann few times ago.

I'm an independent pro game developper. You can have info on what I'm doing there :

I've read Asraniel message and I totally agree with him.

I'm currently on the starting blocks for developping a Wii game. (Through the WiiWare channel).
I have in mind to use FxGen a bit, but would be better to use it massively.
The game is a spatial puzzle game. The game will also include some mini games in a special part.
(space means "easy textures generation" I guess)

I've opended the mini game part to external people (to amateurs or student that want to have a pro experience). Would be nice to work with you guys.

That could be a nice advert for FxGen.
